Losing Exterior Monitor Connection

When ever I close Sound Forge after opening "Open Copy of Sound Forge", with the Exterior Monitor selected, Vegas loses connectio with the Exterior Monitor. The "Exterior Monitor" button is still selected in the Vegas software monitor, but the image plays only in the Vegas software, on the computer. Many times I cannot switch back without dropping out of Vegas and reloading.

Any ideas?
