Loss of sharpness

I am noticing a small loss of image sharpness when I compare a piece of raw video on the tracksheet, against the same scene once it's rendered out. Doesn't matter if it has h264 codec or is uncompressed, the rendered scenes all have less sharp definition.

It's almost like 'generation' loss we used to see all the time with videotape.

I am missing some editor setting?

Are you in anyway scaling the video, if so render at Best.
Also Vegas's internal preview window is not exact WYSIWYG, more than once I've been pleasantly surprised how much better encoded output looks played back on a TV.

No scaling on this particular piece, but yes, I have been pleasantly surprised by how much better it looks when broadcast and viewed on a 42" plasma monitor in our lobby.

Thanks.

I have solved this issue. So many settings to check.
I notice in "Project Properties" there is a drop down dialog box for "DeInterlace Method". The default under NTSC IMX Widescreen, which is the system we use to create Widescreen for broadcast from our hub station, was set to 'Blend Fields'.

This has the effect of layering field 1 over field 2, thus the subtle shift in clarity in the rendered movie.

I changed the setting to 'None' and the the problem went away.

That's very strange indeed as Vegas should not be doing any de-interlacing. I really wish SCS would make a statement about exactly WHAT that setting does.
