lost markers, ok what am I (not) doing

I have a project with markers,If I render it to a DV .avi first with the check on save markers in the diag. box, then open new project in vegas, place the avi on the timeline I see small marker points(no longer labled) , render it to mpg dvd arch template.
Then when I place it in Arch select add scene selection, I only have one chapter point.
If I place the avi file in Arch it reconizes the markers and creates all the original chapter points. Am I missing a step somewhere? or should I be placing the avi on to a track above in the orig project.

I got the same thing... so I did just what you suggested... placing the rendered AVI file back into the original veg (with the proper markers for the DVDA chapters) and rendered as MPEG from that instead.

I guess this should qualify as some sort of bug... but then I never quite understood whether the markers that you put inside of a VEG are really supposed to be fully compatible inside of an AVI file.

Obviously when you are building your veg with all your clips and such those markers are ONLY IN the veg file... so I never quite believed that an AVI file would have quite the same capacity for Vegas specific markers as a Veg file would have (not sure if I am describing this right).

I think it would be good to get this clarified from Sony... just how are we supposed to use the "Save Markers" feature when rendering an AVI file? Are we to expect to get those odd unlabeled markers or is it supposed to retain their original marker text that we had in the veg?

Yeah , I guess I'll have to experiment with whether its qiucker to place the rendered avi back on the project and then render to mpeg in Vegas or just to let Arch render the .avis
my disc is going to have a lot of short vids in various menus.
It's a shame, the one thing I learned from this forum is that it really goes quicker to render to avi first the encode to mpg. Plus , I like having the avi for back up.

BTW If i do the render to mpg in arch, can I set it for progressive?

I’m having the same issue with the lost markers after rendering to .avi. The difference is, I have been using the MC 1.4 Encoder, which happens to be a stand-alone application, so I can’t bring the avi back to the timeline to render my mpeg-2 files for DVD burning (in DVDA). I just downloaded Satish’s frameserver so that I might render to the 1.4 mpeg encoder directly off the timeline, but I’m wondering if the frameserver will serve the markers same as rendering to mpeg within Vegas’s mpeg encoder? I suppose I'll have to try, but that's another 5 + hours of render time.

Also, is it really true that rendering to avi first, then to mpeg, saves time?

Markers are back in rendered mpg, so long as I bring the .avi back to the timeline, and frameserve from there.
