Lots of glitching frames after upgrading to Vegas Pro 21

@Jeffrey-Stachowiak Can you share MediaInfo for the media you are using with PiP?

Robert Johnston wrote on 5/19/2024, 11:29 PM

@RogerS I was going to ask Jeffrey-Stachowiak whether the Picture-in-Picture plugin was NewBlue's or Vegas', but his @name is no longer available. I, myself, got terrible glitching with NewBlue's Pic-in-Pic with transitions. No problem with Vegas Pic-in-Pic. I have an Nvidia Geforce RTX2060 Super (similar to Jeffrey's). With NewBlue you can turn off GPU for the elements plugins with NewBlue's UI. Click About in the plugin to pop up the interface. After I did that and restarted Vegas, the glitching was gone.

Here's my media info:

No I don't use PIP and do not have NewBlue effects installed. I'll post media when I get a chance. Using GoPro 4k video from GoPro 12. Rendering to 1080p. It glitches when there is a title and a cross fade. I did a couple renders with and without NVidia on and that definitely is the issue.

@Jeffrey-Stachowiak Hi, -

If you don't already have it the App is called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, Copy & paste the information in a new comment on here 👍

Is there a simple project and media you can share which has this error? I have two NVIDIA systems to test it on and I bet others do too.

Jeffrey-Stachowiak wrote on 5/20/2024, 5:17 PM

Yes. Let me know where to upload it. What video do you want the media info for?

Here are links to a sample of Nvidia ON and a sample of Nvidia off. You can clearly see the glitching on the sample Nvidia on.

@Jeffrey-Stachowiak That's great. I think the simplest possible project that shows the glitch (1 media is fine) uploaded to say Google Drive (or Box, Dropbox, whatever) would be perfect. If one or more of us can replicate it then we're that much closer to getting it fixed.

Fx? You mean without pan and crop?

RogerS wrote on 5/21/2024, 8:20 AM

PiP is the Fx you mentioned. You see this error with no PiP Fx applied?

So I was having the same issue I think. Glitching and a Picture in Picture flashing both especially on transitions

Or did you just mean pan/crop to create a picture in picture like effect? Anyway not replicating it on my laptop. I can try with my desktop later.

I do not use PiP, I mentioned it because one of the glitch renderings there appeared to be a PiP in the lower right corner of the frame flashed like a PiP. Also FYI, In Preferences in File I/O "Enable legacy AVC decoding" is Checked and "Enable experimental HEVC decoding" is Unchecked.

Jeffrey, thank you for the example project. I have downloaded it, and test it.

Just to be very clear: if you talke about "NVIDIA ON" and "NVIDIA OFF", where do you switch that on or of? Is it in
a) preferences/video, where you disable the nvidia card, and/or

b) preferences file I/O, where you disable the nvidia card, and/or

c) in the render settings, where you render with or without nvidia support? Which render templates did you use?

Preferences, Video, "GPU Acceleration of video processing", there are two selections, OFF and Optimal - NVidia GeForce RTX 2060, When Optimal is selected I get glitching, when I select OFF no glitching but rendering is really slow.

In File I/O "Raw Processor to Use" set on "Auto Open CL on NVidia GeForce RTX2060" and "Hardware Decoder to use" set on "Auto NVidia GeForce rtx2060".

Does not matter what template I use to render with, NVENC or without. Rendering "Internet HD 1080p 29.97fps". Frame rate FPS does not matter it glitches at 60fps, 30 fps and 25 fps.

So we are talking about the calculations that are performed by the nvidia card. Ok.

Question: which nvidia driver is installed in your system?

The raw processing should be unimportant, since you user 10bit GoPro footage (but not raw).

Without the nvidia enabled in the GPU acceleration, I do not have a significant preview with your sample project. Here it is impossible with both of my systems (even with the 24 core system), to assess the footage in the preview really. To make it short - to identify gliches in the preview is hard. Maybe in the rendered files.

Why do you change framerates for rendering? I would stick to the framerate of the original footage?

I started having the same glitchy issues after updating v21to build 300 a while back. I was able to get around it by using Adobe Media Encoder to convert all my files to Apple Pro Res. Now, after updating to build 314 yesterday the problem hasn't shown up.
