Low Memory Issues

Unable to import media into Vegas Pro 9.o 64bit and/or 9.0a 64 bit without crashing due to low memory issues. have also tried 9.0 32bit with same low memory crash.

Laptop is new with Vista Ultimate 64 bit and 4GB RAM

In idle the RAM used is 1.09 to 1.45 w/ Vegas open. The files that I am trying to import are .mp4 of which there are a total of 65 of them equaling 1.98GB. I can get about 40 into the media project bin before it crashes. What is happening to the available RAM? Shouldn't there be sufficient RAM to get 1.98GB of files imported w/o crashing? I tried clearing cache, playing w/ virtual page memory settings, msconfig start up menu closes and nothing is working . Please help!

"Low Memory" can also be an error message generated when the pagefile runs out of contiguous disk space.Letting Windows manage the pagefile invites this problem. Set the min and max values to the same size. 2X the RAM was the guideline when 512Kb was a lot, but from your numbers, I would set them both to 3Gb.

Let me know if this fixes your problem.

The original setting was just over 4000MB and the recommended setting was 6088MB - I tried that and it didn't affect the problem. Also tried raising it to 2.5x (10000MB) and that did not work either. I know there can be slow downs issues by raising virtual page memory. It's currently back at the recommended 6088MB. Is there any special way to clear cached memory to free up the supposedly 3GB of unused memory?
