Lower Third Graphics

Please note the topic is Lower Third Graphics not Lower Thirds (animation, etc)

I am looking at ways to do my titles (Lower Third Graphics) all inside vegas.

with some of the bugs I posted elsewhere on this forum and the lag time I have to endure every time I switch between Vegas and other apps (whether that be Photoshop or AE) it seem I would save myself tons of accumulative time over the course of the project if I actually could keep everything inside Vegas.

So what is the best way to do actual graphics in vegas that would compete with photoshop quality graphics?

my only guess is using bezier curves on solids to create shapes, but does that get too unwieldy?

is there any other way?

Other than what you already stated, give VASST's Ultimate S Pro a go.

It has some built-in LTs you might find useful.

seems that is just adding graphics

would be great to be able to draw vector shapes in vegas

what about this, here:

"Also you can create a mask in a paint program and apply the Mask Generator FX."

anyone ever do this?

I've used the mask FX for some things. I also save alpha channels, use the chroma keyer, etc. all depends on what I'm specifically looking for.

You can do a lot in Vegas but image this: if it takes 15 layers in photoshop, it could very well take 15 or 20 in Vegas. When I've used Vegas as a compositor/FX program I generally do that stuff in a separate project and render out a video.

If you're having more then a couple seconds of lag when switching between Vegas & another app you must have a LOT of media. :) Did you consider switching off the "close media files" settings in the options? You then can't update a file outside of Vegas and have it automatically be reloaded when you switch back but you can still save it with a different name and replace it in the media pool window.

I've got some pretty neat Vegas graphics-type examples on my youtube page:
here

The current VASST contest also has some REALLY REALLY nice examples of track motion:

Vegas cannot compete with Photoshop graphics, it is simply much quicker “and better options” to create LT’s in a graphics editor.

I like the fact that if I make changes on the original graphics it is updated immediately in Vegas

In Vegas you can create lower thirds using a mask direct on media generator or as a mask track but you are very limited.

I saw a really good video recently that included stuff about media generators and bezier curves for drawing masks in the event pan/crop. Just like Photoshop. I could spend hours doodling with it.

I wish I could remember where I saw that video. Maybe it was the Webinar on Color Correction.

The Footage Firm (https://www.footagefirm.com/) is currently giving away some LT collections. All you pay is postage which to NZ has been less than $10.00. Good stuff and worth checking out.

Footage lower 3rds look pretty good. But $8.95 "postage" for each dvd... hmmmmm. (;
