lower thirds

I have lower thirds from Pinnacle that I've tried to use in Vegas 5 with no luck. What happens is that when I drop one over a clip on the timeline, I can see the colour bar effect, but the background is black and my video clip is covered. Wwhen I drag down the alpha bar on the thirds clip, (so that I can see the video clip) it wipes out the lower thirds too.

Anyone know how I can do this? I've tried all kinds of combinations of where I drop the lower thirds clip on the timeline (over, under, etc.), but without success. Thanks.

Render in Pinnacle as 32 bit file
Bring into Vegas.
Right Click, choose Properties, then Media, then set the Alpha channel properties, probably to "dirty"

It has to be 32 bit uncompressed.

You could also use chroma key to allow the video to show through the black areas. It's not as good a solution as rerendering in Pinnacle, but it would be a lot faster.

I didn't realize there can be a 32bit compressed? I haven't used Pinnacle anything for years...Liquid (now part of Avid) is the closest I've gotten, and there is no compressed 32 bit option in Liquid.
