Luminanz/Linear Key

Wondering ...

In VV3 there is a chroma-keyer called "Chroma Keyer".

But what about a luminanz and a linear key?

Is the "Mask Generator" the way to do a luminanz key?

And how to do a linear key - Is this to be done within the compositing modi?
If so - which kind of - and - is it necessary to create a compositing child to geht a linear key?

That is also the only place I have found for luma key. The only time I have used it is to do a gradient wipe. To do this, I add the gradient picture to video track 1, add video to video track 2 (the "to" video), and more video to video track 3 (the "from" video). Then I set up the parent/child relationship between tracks 1 and 2.

Now on the picture, click on the Event FX button and add a Mask Generator. For the first keyframe, set the luminence values to 1, 1, 0, 1 (going downward). Set a second keyframe at the end and set the values to 0, 0, 0, 1.

mmh, what I found out differs a bit.
I find using the Mask Generator as an event filter without having a compositing child looks like it gives me a perfect linear key.
If not this is it, then I think what you described gives a linear key.

But none of them gives a luminance key, in my opinion. A luminance key should not give us any semi transparency, should it?

But I'm not sure about it at all, don't know how to be save to say what I see there is a luma or a linear key.

Any more hints, infos, insights ...?

use the chromakeyer, choose white as the key color...done.
