M2T no audio - please help !

Hi

I'm having problems with Vegas 9.c and M2T footage from a sony Z7E

I've recorded a 1 hour 52 min clip and I can see the clip but no audio play.
I know for sure that the footage contains audio , because when I play them outside Vegas with vlc it has audio ...

I have tried for more than 8 hours trying to get it to work, but they all fail !

I've imported from the cameras CF cradle , both with vegas and manually (so I have both one huge 20 GB file and 5 4GB chunks)
I've tried converting them to MP4 , when I do vegas plays the audio , but there is a frame missing between the chunks so I can't use them.
And when I drag the 20GB file into vegas it only gives me audio for the first 50 mins or so (and the last 5 ...)
So I'm currently splitting the 20GB mp4 into 3 pieces ...

That gives me a workflow that goes :
1. Import files with vegas
2. Convert M2T to MP4
3. Spilt MP4 into pieces ...
then editing can commence ....

I loose vital quality and even more vital time (and have to spent money on a 3rd party MP4 splitter program...)

There HAS to be a simpler way to do it !

Can anyone out there who knows something about Sony Z7E, vegas and M2T please help me ....

Thanks !

Hi Christiffer

Sounds really strange...

Is it possible for you to upload a small m2t file somewhere to test with? Or if you want you can mail me a disc, my mail adress is on my webpage www.ezzenz.dk

HI

Thanks for your offer, but now I have converted it all to mpg and that even though I loose some quality , at least now I can work with it ....

i have tons of problems with audio dropouts when bringing in cf cards from my Z7Us. The only practical way to rescue the audio in some cases is to open the file in VLC and then export the audio as a wav and then import that into your project...works really well. I think Vegas is uneccesarily sensitive to errors in the m2t stream and that causes audio problems. Clips that have huge audio dropouts in Vegas will playback fine in Windows Media Player (on Win7) and VLC. I also have imported the same cards into Final Cut and have had no problems.

I had audio dropouts with Kingston memory 133x CF cards. Transcend 133x cards work great. I downloaded and ran a memory card throughput test and found that the Transcend cards were indeed quite a bit faster in spite of them being less expensive. This bothered me even more because my last name is "Kingston". I've done quite a bit of shooting now with a 32GB Transcend 133x CF card and it works great.

Also, I've noticed problems when I record to both tape and CF card at the same time. I believe that a faster CF card like a 300x might fix this.

I believe that what happens is that the Z7 records the video first, then adds the audio after. When the CF card transfer rate falls behind a little, the audio is the first thing to go.

Thanks for your reply...

But I don't think its a CF card issue , the file has perfect audio when played with VLC or similair , which would indicate that nothing is wrong with the transfer.

From what I can read here and on creativecow and on similair sites , vegas has issues with M2T both the video and audio part of it.

Glad I only borrowed the Z7 - I own a EX1 , and MP4 is a joy to work with ...

Weird. I never have any problems at all with my Z7 compact flash footage. I didn't do anything special. It just worked and continues to work. I wonder why your experience is so different.

mmm if the fault isn't with vegas maybe its a PC setup problem ..

I work on a Quad Core i7 2,66 Ghz, with 12 GB DDR3 ram (1600Mhz)
with a pair of 500GB 7200 rpm harddrives set up in a raid array
And have two 1 TB external harddrives , one on E-sata, one on Firewire

Use WinXP pro 64 bit and Vegas 9.c

Do I need any special codecs to edit M2T ?
