Video freeze bug, M2T file
Partway thru playing the rendered video file,
the video freezes and the screen image stays constant.
The audio stream continues to play to the end.
Software:
Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition
version 9.0b (build 92)
Environment #1:
Windows XP Pro (SP3). (all current patches)
I run Vegas on a plain user account (not priviledged)
Environment #2:
Philips hardware DVD player, 2008
Camera:
Sony HDR-HC3
(worked fine for the past two years, and,
worked fine on a later project a few days ago).
Created a *.VF file using Vegas Platinum 9.0B.
Project media:
Captured a half hour HD video from mini-cassette tape.
*.M2T file (6.1 gigabytes)
Added perhaps 30 text labels and a dozen JPG and GIF,
three video tracks, two audio tracks.
Standard items, nothing fancy, have done this before
Pan and zoom in a few spots.
Transitions on text labels, mostly spiral.
A few edits, cutting sections where nothing was happening.
The single *.M2T source file is present on the timeline as several segments
Preview play of the VF file within Vegas is fine.
(*** implies: bug is NOT within the captured camera video ?)
1) Rendered as a *.WMV file, at 3.0 MBPS
Using either Windows Media Player 11.0.5721.5230,
or a hardware DVD player from Philips,
about 2/3 of the way thru playback on the rendered file
the video simply freezes and the sound keeps going.
Clicking the timeline on places after the 2/3 mark
starts it playing video again.
(*** implies: bug is in the format coding on a specific spot of the rendered file ??)
2) Rendered as *.mpg file
Main Concept 2, using DVD NTSC option, 720x480 video.
Standard parameters, did not change any defaults.
Same video freeze result, same location.
(*** implies: either bug is in two output codecs ??,
or, something is wrong within Vegas Pro internal structure ??)
Video freezes at the same spot,
both on my Win XP Pro system,
and when transferred to a hardware DVD player (Philips)
with no software in use.
This is a repeatable, hard bug.
It is interesting that the hardware DVD player also video freezes.
That rules out some problems that might be on the Win XP system.
Workaround:
chopped the VF file into two parts:
part A with first 2/3, before the problem section.
part B with last 1/3, includes the problem section.
Rendered two *.mpg files, A (1.1 gb) and B (0.4 gb).
A plays fine.
B contains the freeze problem, near the front of the file.
However, very interesting, the problem shows only as about
a 2 second momentary freeze. Then it continues.
-------------------------------
To create the DVD for the client,
used DVD Architect, version 4.5
File / New, selected Movie Compilation,
inserted two "slides", parts A and B.
Playing the generated DVD on a hardware DVD player,
freezes for two seconds at that spot, then the video resumes.
A two second glitch is OK on a draft version,
but it would be good to correct this.
All help appreciated !!
Thanks!
