Apparently AVCHD is not on the list, if I understand this correctly --- are you saying that sometimes you get an AVCHD format to "smart render" ?

Yes, they will smart render sometimes. If the file is on the time, it will start rendering frame by frame, then all of a sudden, it goes into "no recompression required, stops and then goes back to rendering. The file is 1 hour 20 minutes long. It gets about 43% done and then locks up. I will get an error which reads...0x800706be I looked it up on microsoft, downloaded a fix, but it still locks up in the same spot.

perhaps it's simply rendering the open edit points?

if it's at the same place repeatedly - then it's more than likely a problem on the tl; bad clip, graphic or the like....
