m2v not compatible?

I have extracted the m2v and ac-3 files from a dvd. The m2v as I understand is a mpeg without sound and if I rename it .mpg it works perfect in Windows Media Player and Power DVD, but when I try to get it into DVDA it does not recognise it.
Has anyone got an idea?
I want to extract the movie from a DVD and create menus and additional material, but without quality loss.

DVD-A uses program streams only, an m2v file is an elementary stream. You can use TMPGEnc and go to file>mpeg tools and use the simple multiplex option and use a dummy audio stream and run. You will get a compliant program stream that you can use in DVD-A and then associate your ac3 audio stream with it.

Great. Exactly what I needed:)
Now I also know what it means when people are talking about elementary streams.
I just hope I wont get any sync problems.
