m4a files

Someone emailed me a couple of music tracks with an m4a extension which I wanted to use in a Vegas 5 edited video, but it does not recognize the file type and it would not open.

I followed the instructions on my computer for finding a program that would open it or have Windows locate, and i did download something that was supposed to convert the file, but I can't get it to work either. Any solutions? thanks.

M4a files can be imported directly into Vegas 8. M4p files are protected and cannot. Both are iTunes format and can be opened in iTunes or played by Quicktime.

My suggestion would be to install iTunes and burn the files to a disc from iTunes then rip them as wav files to Vegas.

Better yet, download them from iTunes yourself and burn them to disk from within iTunes. Then import them into Vegas as wav files.

My guess though is that you might have copyright issues to deal with.

Hope this helps,

Greg

There´s a good prog called switch. It´s free and can code nearly everything. You can get it at http://www.nch.com.au/switch/
Install, start and load the m4a. Then it will say you need an additional codec which you it does download automatically.
