Mackie Control

I am using Vegas 8.0a. I have just aquired a Mackie Control Universal. I am using a Edirol UM-1ex USB midi interface with the Edirol driver. I have set up the MCU in Vegas ok and it is recognised. The MCU lights up and self checks and buttons light when pressed but I cannot get it to interact with the Vegas 8 timeline etc. Could this be a Edirol driver issue, a Vegas 8 compatability issue or may be a duff MCU. Any help would be appreciated. Geoff

There's a heap of information on this area in the Vegas Audio forum.
If after a search and a thorough work through the setup at both ends you're having no joy try a post over there. One of the SCS guys (SonyPCH) is a wizard in this area and checks in there from time to time.

Could it be just that you have not selected Options|External Control? You don't mention that you have ticked this item so perhaps that's it.

I use a Mackie Control and the External Control option not being ticked is one of the common problems in it not functioning.

What firmware version is he MCU?

V2.1.2 is the latest and available as a download from Mackie. It needs to be sent as a MIDI file to the machine by playing it in any program that can replay MIDI, not Vegas unfortunately.

For MIDI-debugging purposes I would suggest a great tool: Midi-OX (downloadable from http://www.midiox.com/). Free for non-commercial use, donations appreciated, though.

Using this app, you rule out one component out from the equation (Vegas). Therefore it is easier to find out where the problem lies.

I'm using MCU through M-Audio UNO, which is similar adapter as the Edirol. And MCU works OK.

Thanks to you all. The solution was twofold, first I used the Edirol driver rather than XP's own and as many of you said I had not ticked 'External Control' either. Thanks again to you all. Geoff
