Mackie Control, a few questions

Variable velocity? Not sure what you mean.

I take it when you turn the VPot is reacts to fast. If so, yes, that would be a good addition. Will add it to my list.

Or is he telling that the pan react in a logarithmic manner like volume ?

It seems more precise for some panning automation to hit the 'flip' button on the mackie that puts the pan to the faders. I've found that already works better on some movements then to use the knob panner.

Yeah I mean that no matter how fast you spin it, I would only like it to move as far as I moved it. It seems to react very differently depending on how fast you turn it. I DO see how it would be usfull to have the other way too tho

It doesn't have the "feel" of a real world mixer pan knob.

The knob does not behave like a real world knob. It is very "virtual" in what it tells you it is doing. I almost prefer the knobs that have hard end/begin points vs the VPot approach. The advantage is that the changes you make are relative and you don't have to match the current pos before changes are accepted. Maybe they will come up with e moterized knob<g>.

Will review how it is mapping over to see what improvements can be made.

mackie claims this plug has a variable parameter strength...I think that was the phrase they used. I wonder if its switchable in the driver or whatever. I wish there were better documentation with this thing. Still waiting for that big knob to come out too

OK, here's my next Mackie question:

Is there a way to get the buss names to show up on the Mackie? I've got about 15 busses routed and re-routed now with buss to buss.
In the Mackie, when I scroll to them they just come up as Buss A, Buss B etc. which is very tough to use since you can't drag busses and it becomes hard to tell which is which.

Any way to get the buss names routed to the Mackie?

Sounds like a bug that the user supplied name is not displayed.

Will look into it.

Hello everybody,

can you write what VERSION number your mackie control shows?

(just switch it on, after reset the mackie control shows Version 1.x or 2.x in the right corner of the display)

Thank you!

I've got version 2.1.0 here.
Weird stuff on the master fader because it seems to work in conjuction with reading the master fader if the buss tracks are showing. I haven't quite figured that out yet.

Lots of other stuff works great.

I have tracked this post for a while. Any assistance available on getting my two Control XT's to work with Vegas 5.0b? This post was in April, still no support for the units.

I switched from Sonar XL to Vegas and I love the product, but my Extenders are now gathering dust and I'd like to use them for something.

Are there any "unsupported" work-arounds to get my XT's to work like this post illustrates?

"XT unit 1 : Channels 1-8
MCU unit Channels 9-16
XT unit 2 : chanels 17-24"

The reason we don't expose support for the XT units is that we have been unable to obtain units for dev from Mackie. We have support for them, but it has been disabled until we can properly test. However, if you are interested, you can enable XT support as follows:

While Vegas is NOT running:

Run regedit.exe
Locate the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Media Software\Vegas\5.0\Metrics\External Control\Mackie Control

Add a DWORD value and label it

AllowExtenders

Set the value to 1.

Restart Vegas, and the XTs, if connected correctly, will snap to attention. You may have to configure a few things.

Please let us know how they work for you.

Peter,
I gave it a quick run through last night and so far it's been working good. I only have one XT at the moment so I can't comment on multiple stability. I will have a chance in a few days to really get into it, If I run across any problems I'll post.

Peter - I tried it, it worked. Thanks.

Any idea if the support for this surface will be enhanced for v6? Are there any plans for supporting the C4 extender unit as well? That would make my setup perfect. That way I could edit my EFX from the C4 and keep mixing on the main control.

Having 24 simultaneous channels of mixing is a huge benefit.

Enhanced in what way?

We don't discuss future releases.
