Mackie control freeze

Sometimes if I try to change banks with the Mackie control while playing audio, the pc will freeze and take around three minutes before I can pop task manager up to shut down vegas. Im using the Waves IR-1 plugin in this project, 16 tracks, most mono, but I have some muted mp3 tracks in as well

I can only get it to crash by banking right, banking left wont seem to do it

OK I tried some other midi I/O and Im getting the same thing, also moving a fader will sometimes freeze it. I left taskman open and watched the performance meter. Normally it wont go very high, even with a bunch of faders moved at once, but when it froze it went to 100% and stayed there

This with the MOTU or with other devices as well.

I am not seeing this here. The CPU spike indicates something is really spinning its wheels.

I have tried both the MOTU and the RME's own midi ins now. The spike is really similar to the solo and mute spike
