Mackie Control Universal

I am trying to use a Mackie Control Universal via a Steinberg Midex8 USB to MIDI. Vegas sees it and it starts Ok but then crashes hard soon after initializing, requiring a button push restart.

Any known issues interfacing with these pieces that might be helpful?

OS is XP (sp2), 3.2G P4, 2G ram Lynx AES16 sound cards

What version of Vegas are you using ?

My only advice is to check which firmware the MCU has, this is displayed on switching the MCU on, the current version since late 2004 is 2.1.2 and works well with Vegas.

The firmware update is available as a midi file from Mackie.

I have noticed people have problems with some midi interfaces but I haven't seen any reports on the Steinberg being a problem. I'm running an ESI Midimate USB to midi interface with the MCU and Vegas/ProTools LE.

I'm using M-Audio Uno with Mackie MCU and it has been working w/o hitch. One thing, though: contrary to normal procedure, use only the driver supplied with the eqpt, do not donwnload anything from web.
