24/192 (of course)
4 input channels, even at 192 khz!
123 db dynamic range
.0007% thd (WOW!)
64-bit floating-point

Looks like this one is going to set the standard for some time to come.
And oh yeah, with the Mackie name you can bet it's going to be pricey!

And then there's the Motu Traveler, 4 mic inputs, AES, SPDIF, ADAT, bus powered, made to fit under a laptop or you can sling it over your shoulder.
Too many choices these days seems to be the problem.
Bob.

/edit/ Just looked at the full product specs, my goodness, word clock and a SMPTE TC generator as well!

farss: the Mackie or the Motu (those specs)?

Motu, I think it's around USD 900.

Dang, for that money, why not get a PreSonus Firepod and get 4 extra inputs? And you'd still have $300 to spend on mikes.

is anyone on this list actually using the firepod with vegas? If so, how does it perform, what are the pitfalls, etc? Anything better out there for use with vegas?

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I just noticed this one.

I've been using a Firepod in Vegas/Acid/Forge for almost a year now, and I don't have anything remarkable to say, meaning it does it's job and I never to fuss with or touch it. It's about as transparent as any sound interface could possibly be. It's perfectly stable, and it sounds wonderful. That's actually something I noticed right off. You can crank the gain on the lines, and it simply won't clip. I like getting things really hot, so while I've always had those moments of worry (when the soprano is gearing up for the end, or the piano player starts getting excited) with other interfaces, the PreSonus just won't budge. Things get louder and louder, and that clip light just refuses to come on. That's the kind of reliability I need out of a preamp.
