MAGIX MESS - MSP17 upgrade can't handle my ProRes & MSP18 is fake

Have been happily editing my ProRes project with MSP15. then came a sweet offer to upgrade to MSP17. no mention in the promo that it can't handle ProRes files. i also checked a trial of the bait-n-switch fraud of MSP18 (which i don't want), and it does handle the ProRes files. Numerous mentions in the community about this msp17 problem so Magix knows, but support plays dumb and refuses to give me a refund! pretty sleazy.

i even suggested that they keep my money, but give me an older version of Vegas (17 or 18) and keep a client who would most probably upgrade to a newer Vegas. nope, "policy" bs. use Handbrake they say to change ProRes files into something MSP17 can use. more bs.

trying MSP17 cost me a week as edit file couldn't be opened back in MSP15, had to rebuild the edit with backups. Magix sure trying hard to lose clients, both with the bait-n-switch software and deceptively removing capability and calling MSP17 an "upgrade".

though i'd prefer to stay in the Vegas ecosystem, right now i'm having to hand off work to my assistant. his Premiere is of course handling the files perfectly....

@K_T I was going to suggest looking at this thread which explains the VMS17 ProRes problem but you feature in it so are well aware https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/upgraded-to-msp17-does-not-support-my-2k-prores-files--130280/

Given that Magix Vegas broke the QT plugin and consequently ProRes cannot be imported I'm surprised that Magix won't do an update deal with you to Vegas Pro 19. With VMS now discontinued there obviously won't be a patch to fix the QT problem. A sad situation.

As for the MSP18 fiasco I suggest you hound Magix for a refund. After all you were mislead by their misrepresentation in believing MS18 was an update to VMS17 which it isn't.

yes, thanks for your comment. i have indeed been hounding Magix for a month or so. incredibly after deceiving me twice, they have so far shown no corporate smarts whatsoever. either refund the money, or credit the money to give access to the Vegas stream and keep a client who will obviously upgrade over time.

Instead i get: 'Thank you for your message. Unfortunately we are unable to provide a refund for the previous program. We also are unable to change the pricing options for our programs. "Upgrade" pricing is offered at a discounted price, though, for the current Vegas Pro 19 programs. No refund, no credit, corporate policy is a big fu...

and, when i note that the previous MSP15 has been working very well with ProRes files, and that the fake MSP18 also plays the ProRes files, it's pretty clear that MSP17 is the rotten middle of the sandwich. no matter they respond: You can use a free program such as Handbrake to re-encode the files into a supported format and then import them to the Movie Studio software.

it very much reminds me of years ago when Apple brought out Final Cut 10 that wouldn't work with all previous edits of previous Final Cut versions. there was a mass exodus of pro and semi-pro editors to all the alternatives available. it took at least a decade to win some of the back, but so many have simply stayed with Premiere, Resolve and so on.

@K_T MSP17 was originally okay but as you will be aware from the thread I linked it got broken with builds after 179. Unfortunately Build 179 is no longer available to download.

As for Magix I get the impression they have no idea of customer relations.

From your comments I get the impression you'd be better off with Vegas Pro if you are dabbling with Pro formats.

I downloaded a trial Vegas 19 and of course the files work just fine. Just waiting to see what Magix will do, other than a corporate policy of deception. Incredibly frustrating when an "upgrade" is actually a "downgrade" when it won't work with previous Magix edits....
