There has been a bit of confusion about MPEG encoder version numbers. They aren't always equal between products. For example, 1.3.1 refers to the current version of the standalone MainConcept MPEG Encoder -- the entire program including its user interface and various features, not just the encoding components.

Sonic Foundry licenses the MainConcept MPEG SDK and implements it themselves, so they create their interface according to their vision and their knowledge of what their customers want.

Sonic Foundry is using recent MainConcept technology, but the version numbers may still vary between their products and ours. So if SF doesn't call it 1.3.1, that doesn't mean their version is lacking in features.

The version number you see for our MPEG plug-in in the About dialog has absolutely no correlation with the standalone MainConcept encoder version number.

The main purpose of the plug-in version number is for our software installs. This ensures that you have the latest version of the MPEG plug-in when you install one of our applications when there is already one (or more) other of our applications installed. It will not overwrite an MPEG plug-in that is higher version number than the plug-in version that would be installed.

OK. I was really just looking at the note in the things that were fixed in the stand-alone version, specifically the one about long videos not crashing any more. I've been having that problem consistently with the encoder in Vegas 4. I had no problem with Vegas Video 3 though.

So, version numbers aside, does the current version that's in Vegas4b have that long file fix?

We found out, that the V4 integrated (plugin) MC encoder needs twice as long as the external MC encoder beeing served by the Satish frameserver using the same settings. In addition the luminance is reduced when encoding internally. What is the reason? and will both be fiexed in 4.0c?
