Major Quality Problems Rendering MP4's

Hey Folks,

I'm experiencing SEVERE quality problems when rendering MP4's. I get major blurring and pixelation. I am required to create the videos I'm making in avi format and I also have to provide an MP4 version for the company I'm contracting with.

The settings I'm using when rendering the MP4's are Main Concept AVC/ACC - 620 x 480 - Best - Variable Bit Rate 768,000.

Does anyone know if there are other settings I can adjust to improve the quality?

Thanks, Jeff

I set field order to none (progressive) whether my source material is interlaced or not. That seems to help. Two passes also improve quality quite a bit. Also - the bps you mention - is that max or avg?

That is a low resolution, low bitrate setting for iPods.

What is your original media?
What is your intended use?

Original Media is avi DV Widescreen.

Final product has to be avi DV Widescreen and MP4 640 x 480 H.264 codec.

What do you mean by "making two passes?

The bit rate 780,000 was max. I've tried increasing to 20 million, but it doesn't seem to help much....

I have had better luck with Sony instead of Main Concept mp4s. Might be worth a try.

I have to use the Main Concept because it has the required H.264 codec....

Anyway, I just tried increasing the bit rate to 50 million and I'm getting a much better image with that setting.

Thanks for all the help! Looks like I just needed a higher bit rate...

Cheers, Jeff
