Make Movie question

Hi there

I have been using MS12 for a good while now and it never ceases to amaze me how versatile and full-featured it is for the cost. However, I have come across something which I can't see any options to tweak... Make Movie.

In the past I have used various rendering options from MStudio. I make MP4s, MPegs, M2t etc. regularly. I am living in a PAL system country and so always strive to render my videos at 25fps. The software projects are always set to 25fps (PAL).

More recently I have started creating Blu-ray discs using MStudio to render out the timeline with the SonyMovieStudio "Make Movie" option. I find it convenient. Then I pull the video and audio streams into DVD Architect (v5) where I create the Blu-ray layout. I then use DVD Architect to create the Blu-ray ISO and finally use ImgBurn to actually create the physical disc in my Samsung burner.

I have been pleased generally with the results but am puzzled because...

When I use MediaInfo to look at the "m2v" video stream created using "Make Movie" option from MStudio it has been rendered as a 30fps video type. I don't know why it doesn't keep my very obvious PAL 25fps setting which is all set up in the project preferences. There is no option that I can see where I can ask the "Make Movie" option to retain the 25fps. Is this normal?

I feel that if my project is set to 25fps, all my footage is 25fps, then surely the "Make Movie" should know that I want 25fps?

Am I missing something here? To be honest I only noticed that this was happening recently (I had kinda assumed the 25fps setting would follow through to the 'Make Movie' option). My Blu-rays play okay through the TV, but I feel that I want to keep my PAL 25fps unchanged. Surely by changing the render to 30fps my video is being unnecessarily tampered with.

I would be grateful if anyone has answers as to why this should be the case.

Many thanks
Viddy

Is it possible your Movie Studio or DVD Arch are configured for NTSC rather than PAL?

Look for an [Advanced] button. Clicking that should give you some additional options.

I wouldn't ever use Make Movie. It's just to simplistic and limited. It uses a lot of preconceptions about what you might want to do and steers you in that direction whether appropriate or not. I always use File / Render As, which gives you all the menus and options up front.

Hi Steve

Many thanks for your post. I am sure that I have set everything I know of to be 25fps PAL within Movie Studio. It is Movie Studio that is decding to create the 30fps Blu-ray *.m2v renders from its timeline (which is all definitely set to 25fps).

I am not aware of anywhere else I can make any further changes to the settings. I have checked "Project Properties" and "Options Preferences".

Hi Chienworks

Thanks for your suggestions. When I select the "Make Movie" option there is no "Advanced" button anywhere during the Make Movie procedures. That is why I am thinking it should at least copy the frame rate that my project is set to (i.e. 25fps).

I realise that "Make Movie" is a simplistic approach but, apart from the rogue 30fps it does seem to create decent Blu-ray video and audio streams.

I do often use the "Render As" option to create other video formats and I guess that's what I might have to do. Would you suggest using a render setting something like the Sony "AVCHD 1920x1080 50i" as being the choice from my project timeline? That produces a *.m2Ts video.

Or, would you choose Sony "Blu-ray 1920x1080, 16mbps Video Stream" which produces a *.avc video file. I guess I would need to render out an audio file separately then.

I realise that one of the above will probably work - but am still more puzzled as to why Movie Studio "Make Movie" decides to change my project to a 30fps format. Is this possibly a bug in the software? Or is there somewhere else that I haven't discovered (as suggested by Steve) whereby I haven't set up Movie Studio correctly (i.e. it thinks I am NTSC).

It's a weird one.
