Making a movie from start to finish

Hi all, kinda new to the video editing stuff, so bear with me. I am currently an unhappy Studio 8 user, it crashes for me a lot, doesn't crash for others, but for me it's a problem.

Anyway, been looking at Screenblast, and it looks cool. Except, I read a recent post that said you can't make the menus or burn the DVD with Screenblast. What's up with that?

So you make all your transitions and import video with Screenblast, save it as an AVI or MPG and then bring those files into Studio 8 to make the movies and burn it?

Come on, can't one app do it all? Granted, I don't have "that" much trouble with Studio 8 crashing making menus and burning, mostly during the editing, so it may not be a problem. But I'd rather do everything in the same app.

Possible?

screenblast will edit and compose your video... it then passes it off to myDVD via a one button "burn dvd" button.

Many of us do not like myDVD since it does not do motion menus, and is weak in doing chapters.

Many of us use DVD-Lab which is very robust in DVD authoring.

Out of the box, screenblast WILL make menus and burn DVDs...just not in the way many of us prefer.

If you download the trial, be aware it does not include the myDVD app - which means you cannot burn DVDs with the trial.

Screenblast comes with Sonic MyDVD, not the best of authoring programs. What many do is edit in Screenblast then create the menus etc in another DVD editing program. In all of my reading it appears that DVDLab is one that many use. I personally am trying to use Ulead DVD Workshop which I have used with some success. I do not have any projects working right now so I cannot give you any other suggestions.

Welcome to the repository of discouraged, fedup, angry, feel like we got screwed, EX Pinnacle Studio users!!!!!!!!!!!

I found the link to DVDLab, looks like it's another $99. I don't to whine, but that's a lot of $$ to spend on top of buying Screenblast...

I have Sonic MyDVD already, I may try that out, but I must say that DVDLab did look pretty cool.

Any other burning and menu comments or suggestions?

Thanks!

The cheapest option of course is to try MyDVD. I tried it, and would have been OK with it except for one thing -it doesn't allow you to set chapter points. You can break your input file up to separate pieces, and get access to these from MyDVD menus, but they aren't chapter points - and there will be a slight delay when you move from one to the other.

Ulead Movie Factory is a good low price option. Easy to use. Not as powerful as DVD lab, but it is cheaper. The standard edition of this is $49.99 (version 3); though I've had some issues with this. You may be able to find a reduced price copy of version 2 (version 3 just came out).
