Making Fire Through Text w/Composite mode - how?

Hi,

I am trying to get a simple text mask effect by showing text that has fire inside of it, over a background, but can't seem to get it working right - any tips?

I tried what Spot said in the V4 book re making text track 1, fire background track 2, setting track 2 to composite/child track, but it's not working right... can anyone help, or show me a .veg I can model after, to have a simple 'fire text' effect?

I'm using an impact-type font, and want there to be fire blazing inside the letters ... I'm missing something simple I guess.. any veg's out there? or ideas?

And hey I did a record 3-DVD source avi 2-cam render in just over a week this time, thanks a million to all of you who've shared so many great tips, and help. What used to take me months, is now done in days... no longer a padawan I guess.. though a simple fiery text mask should be a breeze...

thanks much,

ken

Hi Ken,

Are you wanting flames (such as from a video clip of flames)
showing inside the shape of each letter?

If so, text with transparent background from media generator on
track one. Flames on track two. Third track your background.
Make track two the child of parent track 1.

I can post a veg later today, I am traveling this afternoon.

(White) Text on track 1, Flames on Track 2, Background on Track 3. Set compositing mode of track 1 to "Multiply (Mask)" and make track 2 a compositing child of track 1. Flames will show through text and the track 3 BG will show elsewhere.

Thanks - hey that did it... worked great. I'm releasing a new dvd system with the word "fire" in the title, so I thought it would be neat to have flames/fire inside that word, for effect... I appreciate your help, thanks.

Ken, that entire process can be found in Vol 2 #5 of my newsletters "Beginner's Corner - Text Compositing Reprised"
