I did'nt really see that much of his work but Apocylypse NOW and his Portrayal of Jor El Supermans Father Were Two of my Favourite Performances..Also he seemed to act how he lived... A great Loss to the Acting World...
Mark, see "On the Waterfont" .. . you not seen "The Godfather"? . . "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" . . he played inarticualte characters, maybe those who have a duiffculty in communicating . . "The Young Lions" " Mutiny on the Bounty"? . . he was very thoughful of his parts . .
. . I think there was an "After Brando" moment that happened after On The WaterFront . . .film acting changed after that .. Influences on De Niro ..Pacino .. and not a few Film directors were also affected .. ho .. nearly forgot "The Young Ones" . . . frankly, Brando "released" the American film acting into something "other" . . he brought gravitas, moment and weight to his film roles .. others gained from the freedom he created for them . ..
.. . the Superman thing was really . . . I can't type it here . . . .
Of course I saw The Godfather and On the Waterfront and the young ones But Apart from the Godfather Film Acting had already changed and seeing His performances was not like seeing Acting being Shaped But aLREADY Formed... And for my Generation My introduction to Him.. Indeed a Great Actor and Person !
Even one performace where Brando spoofed himself was The Freshman with Matthew Broderick. An okay film, but like everything he did, Brando's performance was great.
I remember when Superman came out on DVD. Being only 6 when it was released in the theaters, I was only in the superhero mode... amazingly enough, now after having kids, his scenes as Jor-El, when he's placing Kal-El in the rocket were quite emotional for me. Even up to the end, Brando was a stud!
Another truly great performance for me was Sean Connery in the Untouchables... Also Laurence Oliviers Description Of the force In Star Wars I also think Sylvester Stallone In the First Rocky Film Was aNOTHER Excellent performance.... As was His Portrayol Of Rambo in the First Film.. Another LandMark was Clint eastwoods In Sergio Leones Spaghetti Westerns... John Travolta In Saturday Night Fever...AND Harrison Ford In Bladerunner.. They may not be Recognised for the Great Actors> I <believe them to be... Perhaps the Characters they Portray are just exaggerated versions of their own personalitys.. And the true actors are the Character Actors Like Olivier... OR Gielgud... Hoffman.. Pacino... ect ect...
..... IMO.. The true Stars are the Movie Makers.. The ones who create the Films.. Write the Scripts and direct the Films... When you see a Film LIKE Spiderman..Ect its easy to dismiss it as having no Story.. But That EYE Candy is the result of so many Talented people...Working away behind the Scenes.. On computers...Set Designers ect Building Huge sets... and WITH the Imagination to turn Fantasy into entertainment...
Without the Visionaries there would be no Mega Stars..
