Mask not working in rendered output?

Hope this is something I'm doing wrong because if it's not this has got to be the wierdest thing I've seen, ever.

Need to mask out some crud at the edge of the frame. Use Event Pan Crop to create rectangular mask. Appears fine in the preview window but it doesn't affect the video going to the external monitor. Worse still nor does the mask affect the rendered output.

Adjust the Track Opacity using the slider in the track header to 99% and Bingo, the mask now works. I get the same behaviour in Vegas 7 and Vegas 6. Restarted PC, same result.

If no one's got any ideas I'll try it tomorrow on another PC that runs V8.

And here's an even more interesting tidbit. It works fine with generated media?
And even wierder. My source footage is 25p. If I change the media properties to LFF the mask works?
I have tried the Force Resample switch in the track media properties to no effect.

Bob.

Repro-ed, again, in London.

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=584048I reported the same result in March.[/link]

Do report it Bob.

So with me, I ADDED an underlying track to ping in the mask.

Maybe the assumption IS that one lays this OVER a track with something else in it? You REDUCING the opacity is "shaking" it all up? Dunno . .. .

OR a Video track below with an Empty Event in it! Now THAT'S interesting!!

. . but, when I REDUCE the Empty Event's Opacity it does NOT effect the issue. Only Track Level.

(edit DOES NOT)

. . but, when I substitute the EMPTY Event for a Generated Media and REDUCE that it DOES effect the issue.

ack! I'm lost! :p

so when it renders it's like you never used a mask? Curve mask, right?

Didn't even get to render. Just previewing doesn't show the Mask on External Preview. This is for just ONE track. Put ANOTHER track below - POP! It's there.

Thanks so much Grazie, I was beginning to think I was loosing me marbles. I was hoping it'd go away after a good nights sleep but obviously that didn't fix it.
I'll report it as well and add another dummy track below just to get this job out the door.
Strange that changing field order also impacts the problem.
Even wierder that it'd seem this problem has been in Vegas for years, maybe it only affects 25p.

Bob.

ps. Just saw your email. PC running Skype died. Haven't had time to replace system disk as yet. It's on "the list".
