mask within a mask

Hello,

Is it possible to have multiple masks in the same project?

Say I'm trying to mask out a circle-shaped object. Once all of the points are joined, I can then select my options from there (In, Out, Positive, Negative etc). But I want to mask out a circle or some other shape within the center hole of the circle. I can click in the hole, and select the points, but nothing seems to happen as far as the center being masked out.

Please help, Jason

You need to use the draw tool to make another mask.

I do not think you can draw a mask inside a mask. You may need to layer your masks. Mask the outside of the circle on a lower level tack, then mask the inside of the circle on a track layer above it.

With no image of what you are trying to achieve, it is hard to help beyond the basics.

I have a concert video I'm editing of my buddies band and want to use their logo as an overlay. I have the black border masked out, but want to go in and mask out the black background inside the letters.

I don't see any way to attach a pic? But I do have one ready to post for an example.

Creating a mask within a mask appears to be possible. Whether you can get the effect that you want may be another story.

Upload your pic to a cloud storage site like dropbox.com and post the link here.

Easiest way is to just do it in Photoshop or an equivalent image editor. Then save as a png. Just create a new transparent file the same size as your project, import your logo as a layer, remove whatever you want, place in proper position and save. Sure is a lot less effort than trying to do in all in Vegas.

Thank you guys for all the help. I figured it out. I had to change the newer (inner) masks to "Negative" in the Mode section, whereas the main outline mask was Positive.
