Masking

I have a video with a bright background and dark foreground. I wish to brighten up the foreground w/o burning out the background. I can very easily create a mask for the background that cuts out the people in the foreground (which I wish to brighten up). That is as far as I can get. I cannot seem to figure out how to leave the background as it is, and bring up the levels of the foreground. What I wish to accomplish is a mask for the background (as taped) combined with a mask for the foreground (with a brightness filter applied) combined so that I only increase the levels on the people in the foreground.

Thanks in advance,
Jerry

You will have to use two tracks. Put a copy of the video on both tracks, in sync, one below the other. Apply the mask to the top track and the filter to the lower track.

Simpler yet, try the Color Curves filter. This should be able to accomplish what you want without masking at all.
