You can't without a lot of effort and then at best hit or miss. Presently Vegas doesn't have anything but simple masking ability. To track several irregularly shaped objects over multiple tracks especially if they are moving is difficult. For simple shapes cookie cutter. Changing color of one or more objects is simple enough with color corrector secondary, but to have mostly black and white with a object or two in color isn't easy. For a still image embedded in your video, yes. Just drop the image on the timeline making a transparency in Photoshop or some such similar application. Is their an easier way? Soon, with Boris Red. It uses layers and you can draw on them making your own custom masks. Downside... its an expensive plug-in.

Thanks for both replies, I will try to use this chromakeying thing (I'm a newbie when
it comes to video editing so, please bear with me...)

Cheers,

Bonny

Speaking about cookies, I've been using those a lot these last weeks and one thing comes up to my mind: why don't we have a fully "customizable" cookie generator, I mean, a cookie we could actually *draw*?
Sometimes, I have to use two differnt cookies to mask a particular object (and its related "components") that is not necessarily "round" or "squared" or "rectangled" like, a person or a moving elephant...
With THIS kind of cookie cutter, the task we're talking about here could be done in a snap!!!

Freehand cutter-that is a dream but do you image how much time would take to cut person walking?. Each frame will have to be done, but I would do it if I could.
I do not know a program what will do that. Mybe someone does.

If memory serves, Combustion and ultramatte are a couple - know there's more, that prices are coming down, but it's still a bit of $

There are several programs (plug-ins) that do it. Downside, they all are EXPENSIVE. I've got several projects on the back burner that beg for this and they've been waiting for the release of Boris Red's Vegas version. I haven't talked myself into "needing" it yet, but I'm working on it. <wink>

I thought that Satish had mentioned some time ago that he was working a rotoscope filter- was I dreaming?

Yes, I seem to remember that too

You're weren't dreaming... Statish seems to have a lot on his plate at the moment <wink>

Hey forum buds--the next time the Republicans toss out another tax rebate, make sure you put it aside for Boris or the like....;)

Try the color-pass .veg on the Sundance site http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/help/kb/kb_files.asp?sort=4&author=527

My experience is this effect is harder to create than you might think. Lighting of your subject is very important. And the color you want to isolate should not show up in any other part of the frame.

I hope the bean counters at Boris have a SUPER intro offer and make the plug-in affordable. The result would probably be a LOT of people would go for it. If they keep it at the price it is, they'll sell a few, instead of many. Or have a LE version.
