HiYa all

Can anybody explain to me what "Match Event Length" button in the video media generators is used for and how do you use it? I have read the Help info but it gives me no explanation what it is used for except of course to match the event length.... I thought that you just type (paste) in the event length click the button and it matches the event length ..

look forward to your help .

Put a GenMEd Event on the Timeline, say, Solid Colour. It'll come up as your set Default length, say it is 10 seconds.

Now Drag one end out to 15 seconds, or whatever. Click back on the Event and now click the Match Event Length. For me that brings it to 15 seconds - done!

You can do this in reduction the length too. Reduce the 15 seconds to 7 seconds and click on the Event and click the Match icon again - you should get 7 seconds.

The test is that when you pull out one end, and keep pulling, you will get repeat Notches appear at every 7 seconds.

Hey Grazie thanks for the quick reply.

While I now understand how it works but what is it useful for? To me I thought that say you have a length of video (event) below the GenMed (text) and you want to match the length of text to the event (video) then that would be useful just to click and have the text the same length as the video below instead of dragging the text on the timeline to match the length of the video (event) below,... if that makes sense.

Yes I understand. And yes that would be a great result to have. Match Lengths here relates SOLELY to itself - not other events.

My thoughts that this feature resulted from many of us wanting the GenMeds to re-size themselves at the Event level Control Menu. We now have it. What I would proffer is that as GenMeds have no sense of their lengths in respect of "other" Events, that this has been included to assuage our requests. You will notice that the "Sync Cursor" is greyed-out. This has been a frustrating reminder of just how Timeline-Blind GenMeds are. I can't see without a major rewrite of Vegas how this will change?

Matching GenMEd Lengths to "other" Events! Yes, great idea, I'm with you, but I really can't see how this would implemented in Vegas? Maybe a PEA would do it?

One of my favorite uses for this is with Generated Media like the Credit Roll. Let's say you have a credit roll and it's rolling too fast so you drag it out longer but instead of slowing down, now it loops! Just open it and press the Match Event Length button and the credit roll now fits the entire length perfectly.
