Matching AVCHD with HDV and HD

PeterWright wrote on 7/23/2008, 9:45 PM
I've been asked to cover a record launch for a musician who has a Panny SD9 AVCHD camcorder. It is intended to be a 3 camera shoot.

I have three cameras, an EX1, a Z1 and a Sony A1 HDV.

I would think that my three cams would cut together with each other better than with AVCHD footage.

Could anyone confirm this, and also - would it be better to set the EX1 to record HDV to make this more compatible with the two HDV cameras?

Thanks for the benefit of any experience ...

AVCHD is much harder to do much with than HDV, I'd avoid it.
Yes, you'd get benefit of the EX, and match it to the Z1 using the setups. I'm not able to reach my EX at the moment, but there are some settings that make it easy to match up; I've saved em' as a profile, hence the lack of memory. If you have the EX1 DVD we did, I show those settings in that DVD, just can't remember em' off the top of my head.
Keep everythign at 25Mbps, you'll have a better edit, and you'll find it easy to match it all up.

Spot, although you refer to the Extras Folder in the DVD, there is no Extras folder on my disc - is the PP information available at VASST?

Spot, can you please explain your statement:

"AVCHD is much harder to do much with than HDV, I'd avoid it."

I have a client that is thinking about getting a Canon HF-100 (AVCHD) that I will need to match up with my Z1 footage but I can still get them to buy an HDV camera if neccesary.

Many thanks, Marc
