...errrm which part of the world and what system do you have? Does/is there a Chinese website that you could call out to to get a "view" to your requirements?

. . I'm thinking PAL . . BUT I could be very wrong . . .

It is PAL.

Be warned though DVD and VHS players are VERY rare in China.

VCD is still all the go, that why I make 100s of them. I'd suggest giving him a copy on VCD just in case.

Encode to VCD using TMPGEnc as MPEG 1 for VCD and author using Nero. Works a treat and if the source material is good doesn't look too bad.

You could always tell your client he should take a PAL DVD/VHS he oculd buy here in the US (if he's in the US) over there. I think Awaia makes some pal/ntsc compaitble VHS players. I know apex makes Pal/NTSC dvd players.

Just in case. :)

Are you sure about that? According to "China Daily", http://www.china.org.cn/english/investment/29979.htm, they were the 2nd largest market in the world for DVD players in 2001 (USA was #1).

This is the original poster back. Thanks very much for the responses.

I am in the US and my client is as well. Since it doesn't seem to be entirely straight forward, I'll ask him to find out what equipment will be used for viewing.

China seems to be making some rapid technological progress. Forum readers may have some tangential interest in the recent Post Magazine's article on commercial digital cinemas. It includes a link that shows China (with 34) is second only to the US (with 76) in the number of commercial digital cinemas it has. The total for the Americas is 89, for Europe is 16 and for all of Asia is 57.

And of course, China's manned space program was launched (literally) this past week.

Any more forum users who have prepared material for viewing in China? Thanks for your time.

China manufactures some of the coolest HI-FI-, TV/video- and gaming equipment in the world. They've got a lot of stuff we have not seen on our shores yet. And it's cheap. If your client is visiting a serious company they will without a doubt have machines to watch VCD, DVD or VHS. Send along all formats and you're safe.
