I'm running VMS 9.0b on a dual-core machine and the max number of threads I can select for rendering in the preferences menu is 4. I have two questions:
1. If I upgrade to a better CPU will 9.0b support more than 4 threads if it detects a more powerful CPU, or is 4 the max the s/w will support?? In other words, if I just want to render with nothing else running, a 6 core AMD CPU or i7 processor would just max out at 4 threads and not be able to use the additional threads the CPU can theoretically support. If my primary reason for upgrading is video rendering I don't want to buy more CPU than the software can utilize.
2. since I only have two cores in my current setup, is any setting higher than two threads of any additional value? (I haven't actually tried a 2/4 comparison, but I should probably do so just to answer my own question) any comments appreciated.
