MC AVC does 1088p, but not 1080p ?

The V7a video export to Main Concept AVC/AAC (*.mp4) can be set to 1920x1088, 24p but it cannot be set to 1920x1080, which I thought was a standard HD resolution.

Then, I read from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATSC that
"1080-Line video is actually encoded with 1920×1088 pixel frames, but the last eight lines are discarded prior to display." (due to encoder using 16-pixel blocks)

So if I want to generate ATSC 1920x1080 video (encoded as 1920x1088) do I need to use a 1920x1088 project in Vegas with the bottom eight lines blank, or does Vegas do this automatically?

This may not be an answer, but I confirmed that the output of the AVC .mp4 file looks exactly the same upon re-importing in Vegas, regardless if the original project was 1920x1080, or 1920x1088. I guess I'll have to wait until I own a HD-DVD player and a HD display to see how it would look there.
