Media field order spontaneously changes to progressive

Just killed several hours and burned a coaster. Reason? One clip in a project "spontaneously" changed Field Order to Progressive.

I'm using Vegas 5.0b.

Now, the easy answer is that I somehow changed this. If I were a pilot, the plane would probably never get off the ground due to the frequency of cockpit error. However, the only way I know that this can be changed is to click on the event or on the media, right click, navigate to the Field Order setting, and change it. I had no reason to visit this dialog during this project and am pretty sure I never opened it for ANY of the clips, much less changed anything.

This project has over fifty separate AVI files, and only one got changed.

Is there a shortcut for changing this that I might have activated?

I sure don't want to do this again, and field dominance changes are tough to catch until you look at the finished DVD on a TV monitor (where it is, of course, painfully obvious).

I've had this problem since v3. Asked sofo and they said they had never seen it before. That was the last I heard from them. If I'm having trouble with a clip, this is the usual problem. It is not unusual for me to have five or six clips in a project change themselves to progresive. JM

Is the footage that is changing the same as the other files? And if so is it just a random file/files?

The reason i ask is i noticed that sometimes some of my clips were very soft on preview, these clips were output files from Cinema 4d which kept coming as upper field, which resulted in unacceptable quality issues when right clicked, to change to lower field the difference was quite profound even on a monitor.

So i started checking other outputs from other apps i use and basically EVERYTHING that is generated from A/E 6 , Combustion 3, Cinema 4D comes in at upperfield EVEN tho i have specified lower field, the soloution for me is basically to manually change all the clips props to lowerfield. But camera video dumps i.e. I-link/Firewire they all come in at the correct lowerfield setting and always stay this way, the only clips that come in at PROGRESSIVE are Sony's media generated txts which i leave to avoid "Crawlies".

Hope this helps other folk who use 3rd party apps for their projects with Vegas, who have got fed up with their time and efforts going "soft" on them.
