I recently updating from Vegas 6 - Vegas 8 and now everytime I open Vegas I get this message that "the MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR2 service does not exist or the current account does not have enough privilege to manage it"...What does that mean and how can I fix it?
Did you install the Media Manager for Vegas Pro 8.0? It uses a different version than Vegas 6 did. Maybe this is the issue? Also, if you uninstalled Vegas 6 and didn't install the Media Manager for 8 maybe it really isn't installed?
Has anyone solved this issue, yet? I had it when I first installed Vegas 10 and was advised to uninstall all of my Sony products (including previous versions of Vegas, as well as Acid Pro) and do a clean install.
I eventually had the free time to do all of the above and it actually worked for at least one or two launches of Vegas, but today I opened Vegas and am back to getting the error message (and no usable form of media manager). This is incredibly frustrating as I have a big project involving a lot of clips and really don't have the time to go through them one at a time all over again.
Unless someone has a permanent solution, this is a deal-breaker for me and I'll simply uninstall media manager. Does anyone here know of good, third party cataloging software that recognises HDV, AVCHD and QT .MOV files?
I've been using media manager in Vegas 10e with no problems (other than crashing if I try to select a psd file). I downloaded the last version that came with Vegas 9. Have you tried that?
In the past Media Manager was extremely buggy for me but on my current i7 system with 12 gigs of ram and Windows 7 it has been really stable. A lifesaver for large projects since Vegas "project media" is unable to handle large amounts of clips.
P.S. Sony please add "double click adds to trimmer" to media manager and my editing life will be complete.
I recently installed Media Manager for the first time. It seems to work okay, although I don't really know what I'm doing with it yet. But it installed and loaded no problem.
(On a sidenote, Windows 7 seems plenty buggy. Lots of BSoD's. I think it's related to the Nvidia drivers. I never had that with Vista. Actually Vista worked really well for me. Oh well.)
Marc, I've tried everything, trust me! The only thing that seems to work is if I uninstall all Sony products from my machine (not just media manager, but Vegas Pro, Acid Pro etc), uninstall Windows SQL Server, clean out all application files from my C drive, then reboot and reinstall. Then it works for a short while.
Kimberly, I've had no issues with Windows 7 and have found it the most stable version of Windows I've used, yet. With XP I had to restart windows explorer at least a few times a day for it would freeze if I had a number of windows open on two monitors.
Marc, you mention "Vegas "project media" is unable to handle large amounts of clips". Could you please elaborate a bit on that? I am having problems with a rather large project with a lot of clips in the Vegas Explorer and Project Media. Sometimes when I click on a clip in the explorer Vegas instantly crashes. After a Save As.. and loading the new project things work again. Zapping the Project Media does not help.
Kimberly. The only times I had BSODs, Windows 7 Professional, all were related to either the graphics card or its drivers. With more modern cards I have not had this once. You need to load the latest available drivers from the manufacturer.
I am not having any problems with MM. It actually is a life saver for projects with lots of clips, specially since it shows thumbnails for mxf files.
My experience with project media is that it works fine on small projects but as soon as I try to load large amounts of clips it cannot keep up (at least when using icon view which is how I edit). For example, the continuous redraw of the thumbnails when scrolling a bin of clips makes things very tedious. Depending on the number of clips I also find that the icons will start flashing like crazy in the bin regardless of scrolling. I also get various crashing when trying to manage the clips as you do.
I'm currently editing a project with 2000+ clips and without media manager this would be a nightmare. Sure wish media manager had "double click adds trimmer" though (just in case Sony is listening :)
OK. I agree with your view on the thumbnails in the Project Media window. I use MM to be able to see the thumbnails, and obviously for the tags, and it works fine for me.
I do have the Explorer set to add to the Trimmer on double click and it would be nice to have double click in MM also add to the Trimmer but I can live with dragging to the Trimmer and double click to the timeline. I, like you, need the management for larger projects.
