Media Manager... How to stop auto adding??

Any time you drag something on to the time line it automatically gets added to media manager. Is there a switch some where that will stop this?

I have my permanent library already sorted and tagged and the stuff I usually drag onto the time line is for one project only and will get deleted after completion. It's a bit of a pain to have to clean up media manager after each project.

I've never seen a way to stop it besides turning off mm entirely. It looks like you can start new libraries, though, so I suppose you could create a new library for a new project.

I don't use MM a lot but I've got several years of entries in it now and I occasionally need to reuse a piece of footage. It's the fastest way for me to find those clips so I don't mind leaving it running and collecting.

uncheck "save media-usage relationships in active media library" in the preferences.

That worked.
Thanks.

I use it mostly for cataloging all my sound effects, motion back grounds, music shorts...etc. which are all tagged and sorted. But as for the project media itself.... it gets deleted after the project is done.

Blink, Here's a shameless plug for my training DVD Media Manager Demystified which is part of the VASST Absolute Training for Vegas+DVD series Vol 7. I cover all this kind of stuff including setting up and tagging Media Manager libraries for stock footage, motion backgrounds, etc. like you are doing. I show you basic and advanced queries, how to resolve off-line media, and a host of other tips and techniques for using the Media Manager effectively. If you really want to get the most out of the Media Manager, this will jump start you into being productive right away. There are two preview video links on the product page to view examples of what I cover.

I know a lot of people say they don't like the Media Manager but it's mostly because they never took the time to understand it because it is somewhat complex at first. It's quite a powerful little productivity tool for finding media in large libraries quickly once you understand how to use it. I use it mostly for stock libraries.

Thanks Johnny,

I find MM just absolutely indispensable!

Most people have no idea what's on their computer in terms of usable, clips, images, videos...etc.

Use MM to even just scan you program files and you'd be amazed at what you come up with. Most of these other apps like nero or Pinnacle have their own samples and such buried in there some where and MM digs them right out for you to use in other projects. And you can put it all into a neat, tidy order to make easy to use.

Even older programs that I don't have installed anymore.... I'll do a one time install.... use MM to seek out anything I can use... copy it over... and roll back to my previous disk image (for c drive effectively getting rid of the program) What I have left is all usable stuff for other projects that MM has picked out for me. I have tons of clips. images, audio bits and pieces that MM has effectively picked out and stolen from other programs.
