I'm presently in the depths of wrestling with this powerful package - it is great!

OK, Subbies, from what I gather are virtual files only reference back to the AVI, they don't "exist", and until I actually "render" them they don't make a showing. I don't know if making REGIONS would do it for MM? You could try.

Will give it a whirl Grazie.
And by the way,----you are my inspiration for deciding to give MM a chance.
In the mist of a project that involves 8 hours of raw footage.
So learning MM is a must,---not a maybe.
Good to have some pressure to spur on the learning process.
Debating on whether to order an existing tutorial or wait for the VASST offering.

Wish MM had been around when I was capturing my 27 hours of DV for a digital feature. Ach du lieber.

We are hoping it will be available soon if you cam wait. It is a full hour of instruction including building your own libraries, using the Sony Reference Library, extensive searching techniques, and even managing off-line media as well.

Grazie answered your question correctly. Subclips aren’t “real” media they are just in/out points on the actual media (which you can catalog in the Media manager simply by dragging and dropping it there). The Media Manager isn’t a media pool, it is a reference for media on your hard drive. (subclips aren’t on your hard drive any more than generated media titles, etc. which just live in your project)

Well, I must admit to being even more of a simpleton than Sherman. Just what does MM do and how is it going to improve my work flow? Simple answers please!!

Allows you to label media with multiple tags and then lookup based on those tags.

For example, I could label some media with a "Birthday" tag and some with a "Daughter" tag, and some with both. Later I can lookup the media by those tags.

You can not get this kind of flexibility by the filesystem organization alone.

It even allows you to maintain reference libraries for offline media.

I ignored the Media Manager in Vegas 6 because it was such a problem at startup, but it actually seems usable in Acid Pro 6.0.

Cheers,

Randy

Randy explained it well. The Media Manager allows you to catalog all of your media across multi drives and find it quickly when you need it through several search mechanisms. Here is a small video file to explain some of it to you: DiscSeven-Intro.mp4

The training DVD I was working on was approved today and is now at the duplicators. Watch for disc seven in the VASST Absolute Training for Vegas Series to premiere at NAB. It’s titled, “Media Manager Demystified”

Here is a link to the product page that has a second stream that shows you part of the chapter on handling off-line media: Media Manager Demystified. As I said it’s at the duplicators so you can order until NAB. :(
