Media Pool in V5 (still) not working?

Even though I searched the forum for something similar to my problem, it seems that people are just having trouble sorting their media. Didn't anyone notice that the media pool does not work correctly in general? Or is it just me?

I do the following: Create a bin "Video" and capture my clips. Everything works fine. I create a bin "Audio" and place my music and fx inside. The same for any other media, e.g. Pictures. I then drag some media to the timeline. Suddenly, pictures show up in the video clip bin, audio clips show up in the picture bin and so on. I had this in V4 as well. Any suggestions?

Isn't it sad to see that V5a is more like V4a in respect to bugs? Shouldn't it be like V4e? I mean, the problem with scene detection of PAL DV video also came back... At least the workaround is simple :-(

Yup--the media pool is still a mess. I have had simlar problems to yours. Hopefully the people over at Sony will fix it in the near future. It's been well over a year now since people have been complaining.

The selected media bin in the left pane of the media pool is where the the media will be added (it will always show up in All Media). Make sure the selected bin is the one you want to add media to before loading new media into your project.

As for the bug in scene detection for PAL DV captures (captured clips not saved if non-US localization), this has been fixed and will be included in the next Vegas 5 update.

Ah, SonyYTSW, your " Make sure the selected bin is the one you want to add media to before loading new media into your project.", are you also saying that one is advised not to move media about once in All Media?

Also be aware that if you create subclips and use them on the timeline, when it comes to archiving your project the subclips will be messed up if you try to add extra heads and tails when using the "save as" command. It works ok if you do not add any extra heads/tails but it should work both ways.

No, what I am saying is that when you add media to the timeline, it will show up in whatever subfolder is selected in the left pane of the media pool window. If All Media is the selected folder, it will only go there. If you've created a subfolder and it is selected, you'll see your media there as well as when you select All Media.

That's what I observed when I tried this in Vegas 5. You should be able to move files around to different subfolders, let us know if there is a problem.

TSW, will there be a fix to the sorting issues in the Media Pool? When I sort by date it is not reliable at all. There always seem to be a few clips that will not sort in the proper order by date. This was a problem in Vegas 4 as well. I wish it was more reliable since it is a great help for arranging footage chronologically.

I'd like to know if this bug will be fixed:
- Capture DV from one tape, put in another tape to capture from.
- 1st captured tape in media pool is greyed out so I have to "import media"
- select those clips, hit open... and poof ...the media pool disappears!
