Media Size vs. Project Size

I have a QuickTime movie which is 320x240. When I open it into a VV3 project, it seems to stretch to 720x480. I want the project to be 720x480, but I want the original size of the clip to be maintained. I'd like it letterboxed in the middle of the screen. How do I do this?

Also, the end result is intended to be on DVD. What are my best rendering options here? Here are the specs of the original clip:

VIDEO:
320x240
24 bit
15.001 fps
00:08:15:28
Alpha = None
Field Order - None (progressive scan)
Sorensen Video

AUDIO:
44,100 Hz
Stereo
00:08:15:25
QDesign 2

As always, TIA.

create a new project and use the NTSC DV template in project properties. change the field order to progressive.

drop your media on the time line, then go into the Track Motion properties for that track. unclick the 'Lock Aspect Ratio' button on the left side. then type your media's dimensions into the boxes at the top of the panel. (320 then 240)

you'll see that your video is now centered in the frame at its original size.

to render for DVD use the included MPEG-2 templates. you should customize the template and change one setting: change the field order to "progressive only". there is no reason to encode in interlaced mode if your source material is progressive.

good luck!
