Media Video Generator effect for Audio Track..???

westside wrote on 8/25/2003, 7:17 PM
Hey all....I am wondering if anybody knows of a Plug in for Vegas that does the same thing as Windows Media player does with mp3's and audio files...? Kind of the lava lamp rotating thing that changes to the music.... Or perhaps a way to have "audio" meters on the screne as the music plays. I have music that is going on a DVD and I want to put up some image that changes or reacts to the music.....maybe even a spectral analyser or something????

Any Ideas????

Thanks

IF you have or can use a LCD monitor you could use a DV camera and record the screen while it is playing through Windows Media Player and then use that as the video.

Just a thought :)

Or play your MP in full screen and record with Cam Studio. John

Ho - HAH! - Taking Jsnkc's idea a little further . . . How about getting your audio into WMP film the result on say one of the visualizations - go full screen with something like . . ermmmm . .. Plenoptic or the Ambience selection . . . film this . . .lay this video back to Vegas . . .Parent Child it with a Bump Map - Done! You've now got a video which "reacts" to the bump "changes" created by WMP . .TARAH!!! Don't lioke Bump Map then try one of the others . . .

Now then chaps! My head is big enough - thank you very much!! - Nah, joking apart, Vegas has many many superb what I call "Down 'n Dirty" options to allow me to fiddle with graphics and the like.

It may not be the most elegant of looking NLers, BUT, but, but it does say to me "Well, Grazie, what d'yer wanna do NOW!" - This combined with the Scripting options - Thanks Scripters yer Greeeeaat - has exploded my mind soooo much that sometimes I lay awake at night thinking what else I can do. We are very very lucky editors! In fact I'd go one stage further. This software just aint no straight NLE, it is a creative platform that whatever you want to do it sits there thinking "Hmmm... maybe there is a way . . ." Get my drift here? It's a plain sheet of paper where an artist can approach with a pencil or brush and think - "Wow, from here I can do a zillion things!" - The problem is, deciding what to do next! Chances are V4 will support us in our endeavours. It just requires some lateral thinking and throwing any residual concepts of a Storyboard-type NLE outta da window - yeah?

I've been canvassing many people here in London UK for them to give it a go. The biggest problem is that I'm mostly speaking to exsisting Premmies, with Raptor or such RT cards, where all they can think about is "Render Times" and Preview quality/ease. This is a difficult one to counter, unless they've been placed in front of a monitor with Vegas on it. Having said that, I do/would appreciate Vegas Previews being a tad more "fliud" on realtime Monitoring on my TV set - yeah? But that's a pc upgrade, equates to wallet time! I have other "quibbles", but there again I came from VideoFactory where I'd put up with this particular maiden's foibles. Shy she is. Played and courted in the appropriate way she gives it up. Marvel's, "Coy Mistress" comes to mind!

I'd reeealy like a separate SoFo Forum to discuss and share "Creative" thoughts, separate from the techie and ESSENTIAL "how to's".

In fact that's where I'm going with this post - didn't realise it when I started it. Wouldn't it be good if we could testbench stuff - Bow and MAJOR MAJOR respect to Chienworks here, thanks Pal! - so we could upload and share and adapt. Well I suppose it is out there in various places. BUT, starting from this site - WOW!

Sorry for the ramblings - I'll take a breather now . ..

.. . phew . . . .

OT, but interesting: if you're looking for weird, psychedelic visual effects, have you experimented with video feedback loops?

Try this: hook your DV camera up to an NTSC/PAL monitor using the analog outputs. Turn the camera on and point it at the screen. Zoom way in and gently rotate the camera in a slow arc. Try zooming in and out.

Record the resulting images to tape or hard disk, then apply whatever filters strike your fancy in Vegas.

Try it and see!
