Mediamgr Re-Install

kladig wrote on 11/14/2005, 9:39 AM
I have uninstalled and then reinstalled Vegas+DVD. Now Media Manager says that it can't intialize the MSDE service. I have removed SQL Server 2k, and any other SQL based services and apps. I have reloaded MSDE from MS. Reinstalled V6 and still no service. I hope i'm not looking at a rebuild. Anyone have this or similar problems with Media Manager after uninstall/reinstall of Vegas+DVD?

Thanks
Keith

You can try this. On occasion, the MSDE installer has problems re-installing if any of its directories/previous configuration files still exist.

1. Uninstall Sony Vegas 6
2. Uninstall Sony Media Manager 2.0
3. Uninstall Sony Loops and Samples Reference Library (if installed)
4. Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR)
5. Then completely delete the folder C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Media Manager
6. Reboot (seriously)

Then be sure to use Vegas 6.0c and try reinstalling.

If MSDE still has issues, Vegas 6.0c instructs the MSDE installer to create a verbose log. Getting in touch with technical support and supplying us that log file would help us further troubleshoot the issue (since the log can easily be serveral megabytes in size it really isn't feasible to post that in the forum). You get a free 60 day gold support plan with Vegas 6. The MSDE installer log will show up here: C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Media Manager\msdesetup.log.

Thank you for the information, I'll give it a try.

I had similar problem. You need to examine the mediamgr log file to see if the Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine is failing or not. Read my post. It worked for me.

Good Luck
