Memory problem with Magic Bullet Looks and Vegas 9

Hey guys,

Was wondering if anyone here has gotten 32bit Vegas Pro 9 (or Vegas Movie Studio 9 for that matter) working with Magic Bullet Looks 1.4 32bit on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I have spent almost a week volleying with support at Red Giant Software and I am getting frustrated at their lack of effort to help me debug this. By their request I have reinstalled the product several times and cleaned up the system in accordance with their KB articles. I went out and bought a 1GB VRAM video card. I have tried the > 2GB file header hack recommended on these forums. I increased the internal prefs memory for Vegas to 1024 MB.

And still, every time I render a project with more than 2 or 3 minutes of content which include Magic Bullet Looks, Vegas reports I have run out of system memory after its been rendering 3/4 of the way through or so. Funny thing is, at the time that it occurs, I still have 4 GB of ram still available on my 8 GB box. So it makes no sense to me.

What is weird is I have this same software set running on my laptop with success. Only difference is the video card and the fact it is 32bit Windows 7. I bought the editing station specifically so I could get a quad core box, 8GB of ram and a few TB of storage so it can render faster and free me up to do other work on my laptop.

Yet I can't even get it to render. And today Red Giant basically dismissed it and said they don't support Sony Vegas 9... so I doubt I will ever actually talk to someone with a clue over there on the phone.

Anyone have any clues on what I should do??

Hi,

well, I won't be of help, sorry. All I can say is that MBL version 1.4 does work without problems in Vegas Pro 9 32bit on my Win 7 64bit system. I only took care of installing it by right-clicking the setup executable and chosing "Run as administrator" as I usually do when installing software on Win 7 systems.

Well that's good to hear. Did you have to do the > 2GB hack to render out? This low memory error is driving me nuts.

So this afternoon I set up a different partition and set up dual boot to a WIndows 7 32bit OS. I am STILL seeing this memory leak when rendering any content tha includes MBL.

Now I don't know WHAT to think. Its not a 64bit issue. It must be something hardware related. I might see about swapping out the ATI card for nvidea or something. *sigh*

I got this all worked out. Apparently the issue is that MBL has a problem with ATI drivers and the release of memory. I swapped out the ATI RADEON for a NVIDIA GEFORCE, and it works perfectly.

Apparently Red Giant Software knows about the issues with the ATI drivers, but they thought the recommended driver they suggested would work. It would have been nice to know this earlier... but I am happy its working now.

I love Magic Bullet Looks. It has always been an awesome product to use for colour grading. I am happy to report if you stay away from ATI drivers, it will work fine on Sony Vegas on Windows 7 x64. I just finished rendering a complex 1 hr timeline and it never went over the 2 GB of memory threshold. So all is good now.

Sorry for the late reply. Anyhow, glad that you got it working.
