Menu problems

Everything seems to work okay when I am authoring a movie and I can play it on my computer without any problems. However, when I play it on my set top player, I have only very limited control. I can only get to the chapters by using the number keys. I am unable to highlight any of the chapter icons and make a choice from there. Am I missing something, or could this be a problem with my set top player?

ITS A PAL PROJECT?

Can you give more details on the project? The number key issue sounds like a VCD instead of a DVD, but that couldn't be it...

Okay. Everything looks fine in "Preview" and after having burnt it to a DVD disc it I have complete control on my computer. I can highlight all the thumbnails, double click and up comes the video for that particular chapter. When I try the same thing in my set top player, I have no means of highlighting any of the thumbnails or any of the chapters that appear in text. The only way I can get to anything is by hitting the numeric keys on the set top's remote control.

What DVD player do you have?

Have you changed any settings on the player from the stock config?

Do you get highlights with commrcial DVDs?

I am assuming you have the current version of DVDA (1.0C)

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The settings are left at default, except for my temporary files folder.
Commercial DV's play fine and I have complete control with my set top remote.
My player is an Akai ADV2280

BINGO!!! I've got it. I have exactly the same DVD player and mine doesn't highlight on the menu. But, I've also got a Teac DV-2150 and it works fine.

I use DVDA 1.0c, on a PAL 4:3 project.

I finally guessed that that was the problem. Took my player back for a refund, even though it was 4 months old. No problem with K Mart. Purchsed a Sony DVP NS530 and everything works perfectly. I've been pulling my hair out all this time and I haven't got much.

That may be a temporary solution to enable you to watch the PAL DVD's DVDA is producing right now - but surely its not an acceptable final solution. What happens when you want to give a DVD to family or friends, you won't be sure if it will work or not.

Interesting thing is DVD-Lab (www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/) is also currently suffering the same menu bug for PAL DVD's they (Oscar) are working on a fix at the moment.

TMPGEnc DVD Author (another DVD package that can handle AC3 Audio www.pegasys-inc.com/e_main.html) doesn't suffer the problem, but has only a limited set of templates to work from - though backgrounds can be changed and I found one quite acceptable for what I was doing - and it works on all the PAL players I've tried so far.

I would guess DVDA & DVDLab must be doing somthing similar to cause the fault.
