Merging Mpegs

tadpole wrote on 10/29/2002, 2:41 PM
My last DVD authoring app had me chopping up VV projects into chunks of mpeg2 files (so i could have 'chapters')

Now that i got a DVD authoring program (ulead DVD WS) which can actually set chapter points, i would like to reprint a few discs with this feature.

I can't just re-render my vegas project as one big mpeg cuz i have deleted the original avi files. So...... is there any way/utility i could "merge" the exisiting mpegs i do have into one bigfat one?

You can, but there will be a loss of quality. Anytime you uncompress/recompress video there is some loss. How much in your case I can not tell you. Vegas does a pretty good job with some sticky stuff so it might be OK for you.

Just take the mpeg-2 files (not the VOBs) and drop them on the time line. Then render away.

Ya K,
Thats the thing though - i don't want to take the quality hit for re-rendering mpegs.

What i was thinking, was if there was a way to like "splice" them together - like taking the end of one clip & then attaching it the front of another.

You would think, if all the mpegs were rendered with the exact same settings, there would be a way to append them together... well... at least i think there should be a way ;)

TMPGENC will merge MPEG2 files without recompression. This function is accessed via the "MPEG TOOLS" menu option.

Why not load the original project and re-capture the footage, it shooul all come back to life.
