Metadata - discussion with Dave Stump

Discussion with Dave Stump at COW here. Worth a read even if you don't plan on using Cooke lenses or a Technocrane anytime soon. Once the industry gets this sorted it'll be a big boon to low budget productions that cannot afford people standing around with clipboards.
Even my lowly DSC records metadata. Much to my surprise it is useful. Knowing focal length and distance to subject for a still image avoids a lot of guess work. Even better when it gets loaded by default into a 3D virtual camera.

Bob.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting that. This is slightly OT from your original post, but it's still a shame that hardly any software is out there that can read the frame by frame HDV metadata (and I assume also AVCHD metadata, but I've never looked into that). The only exception is the freeware HDVDataMon:

but it is a little erratic with NTSC camcorders and the original forum link (translated by Herr Google from German) is at:

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fvideotreffpunkt.com%2Fthread.php%3Fthreadid%3D2488%26threadview%3D0%26hilight%3D%26hilightuser%3D0%26page%3D1&sl=de&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

It would be nice to be able to see the gain, aperture and shutter speed displayed real time while previewing a video.
