I was wondering if anyone knows how to make the "color" of a font like either polished chrome or polished gold. All the standard pastels look plain when used on menus and in transitions. I'd like to "kick-up" some of my graphics. I'm using Vegas 4e and DVD Archiect 1d.
well..uhh im no expert at vegas..but you could find a metal shape type picture on the internet and make a mask and bump map and work from there...or use photoshop....

part of the trick with metallic colors is not the color, but the reflection.
A silver sheet is just gray with lighting and reflection, same for the gold. So to simulate metallic, you need to play with lights and reflections.
The reflections are the key to this. Use a paint program outside of Vegas, its just easier. I use Mediachance RealDRAW Pro for 2D graphics that need a 3D look. It has presets that you just select. Type your text, apply the preset look, and export to PNG. It couldn’t be easier. (it even has safe areas for titles) Of course you can tweak the look adding different surfaces or more 3D lighting etc. Download the trial version and give it a try.
Real-DRAW looks like a nice tool for this. If you happen to already have Photoshop in your toolset, it provides a number of pre-built "styles" that you can apply to text, then tweak as you desire. Several are metallic looks. I'd strongly recommend the "Photoshop WOW" books if you do have Photoshop and are interested in effects of this nature.
If you have a 3D software, that's the easiest to go since they usually have metallic surface on their preset (I'm using Lightwave). But if you don't have it, you may want to try this free 3D software (Anim8or). http://www.anim8or.com/main/index.html
