MicroMV?

Just browsing the Sunday circulars and saw a new SONY "MICROMV" camera for sale at Best Butt and Circuit City...The description said the format was 30% smaller than MiniDV, but said nothing of relative quality. Sheesh...soon you'll have to load and unload tapes with tweezers!

First...WHEN WILL SONY STOP INTRODUCING NEW AND INCOMPATIBLE FORMATS!!!???

Second...Anyone know any technical info about this new format?

TIA

We played with one of those cam's this past summer....mounted to someones chest(harness) with a .3 wide angle lens attachment. The video looked as good as mini DV, BUT there was NO firewire port, so......hmmmm.
Nice and small though.

Sony is going all out to make this format become a winner. The newest ones have a higher resolution still capability then some of the megapixel Mini-DV camcorders. It is, I understand, MPG2 in format, with all its virtues and problems.

It is nice and tiny. TOO tiny, for ME to be comforatable with. I like the TRV50 size best. The TRV950 is too big (along with VX2000, etc. I tried the top of last year's line MICRO for about 18 hours over a few days when it first came out. Went right back to my TRV.

Having said that, my wife thinks she likes it better than the TRV50 size. She is 105 lbs., 5' 3" tiny, herself. I am about 195, 5' 9"

It would, however, be perfect for a skydiver's helment cam, etc. where ANY weight, by its very existence, would be a problem.

MicroMV is a Sony proprietory MPEG2 format. Unfortunately, most NLE's do not support the format. (The only one I know that will is Pinnacle's Studio 8)

i'm interested in this camera for the stealthy size. but no firewire, no vegas support and mpeg2 issues, doesn't sound good. also i don't think it has infrared, which i need for shooting dj mix sets. i'd like to read any other comments or opinions if anyone has them.
