Microsoft Messed Up my Vegas Pro 16!

aboammar wrote on 4/19/2019, 1:22 PM

Hi,

Vegas Pro 16 and all other software in my system were working perfectly. I only had a very strange but small problem in Windows 10 where anything I copy to the clipboard, I cannot paste it after 30 seconds .. its like if the copy/paste function had a 30 seconds timer where it clears the clipboard after 30 seconds!

Although a small problem, it was annoying enough for me to contact Microsoft to help me get rid of it. Long story short, after Microsoft technical support took control remotely of my PC and spending many hours troubleshooting this strange problem (even strange to Microsoft) which included a special Windows reinstall without affecting the files and the installed 3rd party software (I forgot the name of that special update) Anyway, after failing to fix it, they suggested two options; a fresh reinstall of Windows which by nature require reinstalling all 3rd party software, or creating a new user account and migrate my files and everything to the new account before deleting the old account. The advantage here, according to them, is no reinstalling required for my 3rd party software so I agreed to this option and it took them around one hour to finish it.

Now the original problem is 100% solved and everything seems fine in my new user account except when I try to run Vegas Pro to finish my pending work, Vegas Pro 16, and for the 1st time ever since installing it, always crash at start and here is the problem details report:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem Description
   Application Name:    VEGAS Pro
Application Version: Version 16.0 (Build 361)
   Problem:             Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
   Fault Module:        C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\IgniteCore.ofx.bundle\Contents\Win64\IgniteCore.ofx
   Fault Address:       0x00007FFD65F92AE9
   Fault Offset:        0x0000000000112AE9

Fault Process Details
   Process Path:        C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 16.0\vegas160.exe
Process Version:     Version 16.0 (Build 361)
   Process Description: VEGAS Pro
Process Image Date:  2019-01-07 (Mon Jan 07) 16:54:52

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What should I do? Is there a quick fix for this problem, or should I just take the long route to reinstall everything from scratch?

I have not yet tried running all my other software, but my guess is if Vegas got affected from that migration, most often other software might be affected as well.

I appreciate any feedback ..

Have you checked that you have access to the folder and files after you changed the user account?

You mentioned you got a new user account without re-installing all your software? It could well be that the new user account has no access rights to the folder the OFX plugin is located in and/or access to the OFX file. Right click the OFX file and check the security setting and accounts with access rights.

Without actually knowing, I suspect that OFX wants to look for something in you users folder, which is not there, because you got a new account, and it crahes maybe...

I'd try to rename first the ignitecore.ofx, so that it cannot start. Say rename it to "ignitecoreofx.bak". If you can omit this OFX in you current work. Renaming might need admin privileges.

Rename it to something, then try to start Vegas. If anything gets even worse, just rename that file back to its original name.

I am not here to want to be rude or anything. But since when does Microsoft do Remote Support?
I know that only of Indian Tech Scammers to be a thing and they claim very often to be Microsoft Support. Its at least a decade old Scam industry.

I am just curious, how you contacted microsoft on that issue and how did they come back to you?

To the problem itself. As far as i know, ignite is on some deals maybe part of the software bundle on Vegas Pro, but not part of the software itself? I assume its Ignite Express? Tried just reinstalling that packet alone?

aboammar wrote on 4/19/2019, 5:58 PM

So, I decided to delete the folder \IgniteCore.ofx.bundle and started Vegas Pro, and it still crashed but this time the error was pointing at IgnitePro.ofx so I deleted the folder \IgnitePro.ofx.bundle and started Vegas and and finally it started ✌

Now, new problems; first my Vegasaur changed to the trial version and I think this problem is easy to solve. The second but most important problem is that I cannot open my Vegas projects anymore! I get error telling me that I do not have permission to open the files! See screenshot:

If your Windows User is not an Administrator, just add him as admin. Than restart the computer. It looks like your new created user has in general limited access overall. And change your password after that.

It has been sometime since Microsoft started a free chat support and if they can not solve the problem in the chat, they ask your permission to remotely access your desktop and do the troubleshooting while you are watching it happens.

Windows 10 has a built in app called "Get Help" and through that app you first chat with AI virtual agent where you ask questions and it replies with the best answer as much as possible, and when it fails to help, you can get connected to a live support team. Also you can access the same app from MS website through the support page.

Hey @aboammar, i noticed your problem and i had the same exact issue a while back.

Struck me at a critical time when my deadline was due that day and suddenly my Vegas Pro would crash every time i tried opening it..

Turns out for some reason the latest version of Vegas Pro 16 has a compatibility issue with Hitfilm Ignite plugins and people are suggesting removing them completely to fix the issue..

Fear not as you really don't need to as this issue is quickly corrected.

Go to the folder Vegas Pro points in the crash report, move the ignite core to your desktop, restart Vegas Pro and it should start with no issues.

After its fully started, close the program and move the ignite core file back to the folder.

This should fix the issue and Vegas Pro should start correctly with your beloved ignite plugins fully working.

Ps. i noticed that this issue can come back at really awkward times for no apparent reason but if it does just repeat the steps and it will be back working in 5 minutes.

Cheers and hope this fixes your issue.
