Microsoft Sound Mapper Error Message

jimingo-1 wrote on 7/23/2024, 12:09 PM

I get this error message about 50% of the time when rendering. "The palyback device Microsoft Sound Mapper does not support the current output format. The playback device Microsoft Sound Mapper does not exist.

It only happens about half the time and I can restart Vegas and render successfully after a failure. I've tried using Direct Sound Mapper instead but my render failed with no error message when I did that. I also have the Windows Classic Wave Driver and Realtek ASIO as options but didn't try them.

Try the the Win Classic Wave driver.. though both that and the MS Sound Mapper are usually trouble-free with an internal sound card. us
There may be another device that is seizing the Sound Mapper, check the task manager for something that uses audio.

Maybe try resetting Vegas .

Microsoft Sound Mapper is the "kitchen sink" for all the audio drivers on your system. As such, competing and open drivers elsewhere will mess it up, guaranteed.

In Vegas, I always use the dedicated ASIO driver for my primary sound interface, and close other applications if they are competing for dominance, such as by locking the sample rate and bit depth.

Example: One common name for onboard audio is "Direct Sound Surround Mapper," which will give you the lowest i/o latency, full duplex bidirectional processing, and relative isolation from competing applications.

I appears that "Realtek ASIO" may work best for you. Be sure your driver is up to date.
